Arrest History in Sumter County
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office, Americus Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia Southwestern State University Police, Plains Police, and Leslie Police can all create arrest or incident records. Outside agencies can also place holds on people housed at the county jail. The arresting agency owns its narrative; the sheriff does not become custodian of every police report merely because the person entered the jail.
A complete arrest trail can involve five records. The officer creates an incident or arrest report. Jail intake records custody, property, fingerprints, and a photograph. A magistrate or court addresses the warrant and bond. The prosecutor decides what charge to file. Fingerprint and OTN reporting can then add a statewide GCIC arrest cycle. These sources may disagree for a time because staff create them at different stages.
The official Sumter County jail page identifies the local custody channel.

The pretrial jail at 352 McMath Mill Road is distinct from the correctional institute next door at 346 McMath Mill.
Sumter County Roster Tabs
The Sumter current inmate roster is free and needs no account. Its only name search field is “Filter By Inmate Name (Optional).” There is no date of birth or booking-number disambiguator, so a common name needs care. Pagination also means the first page is not the full result set.

The capture shows the live roster controls. Item and page counts change and should not be treated as a fixed jail-population statistic.
| Tab | Best use | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Current Inmates | Current booked status and name filter | No DOB filter |
| 24 Hours Arrests | Newest intake and release window | Only a brief recent period |
| Inmates by Arrest Date | Known From/To date range | Results are paginated |
How to Look Up Sumter County Arrests
Use all relevant channels, not one database. A recent Sumter County arrest lookup should move from custody data to the record creator and then to the filed case.
- Search Current Inmates by name, or use 24 Hours Arrests for the newest activity.
- Use Inmates by Arrest Date when an older date range is known, and review all result pages.
- Read the agency and court fields, then request the incident or arrest report from the agency that created it.
- Search the proper clerk for filed charges and disposition; check one's own statewide history through an authorized GCIC self-review channel.
- When online sources fail, call or visit Sheriff Records and use the county open-records form only after confirming the correct custodian.
Sumter Sheriff Records

Public office hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sheriff Records provides accident reports and advertises a $20 cash-only local criminal history. For a deputy report, ask Records. For an APD, GSP, GBI, campus, Plains, or Leslie record, contact that agency instead.
Sumter's 24 Hours Arrests
The 24 Hours Arrests tab offers the quickest view of a very recent intake or release. It should be read as a moving booking window, not a historical arrest index. Someone can leave that view while the arrest report, court docket, or GCIC cycle remains.

The official capture documents the recent-arrest interface. It republishes no private sample here and should never be treated as an arrest gallery.
For the police account of the event, obtain the source agency report. For whether prosecutors filed a charge, check the court later. Very recent systems can lag, and the initial booking description may differ from the accusation or indictment.
What an Arrest Record Shows
The public InteropWeb profile shows useful custody details but omits several fields found on some other counties' rosters. Do not claim a booking ID, DOB, age, booking time, release timestamp, race, eyes, hair, pod, magistrate, future hearing, bond type, or document download when Sumter does not expose it.
| Name and image | Name and mugshot thumbnail appear on the public booking profile. |
|---|---|
| Custody status | CURRENTLY BOOKED or RELEASED at the time of refresh. |
| Physical details | Sex, height, weight, and city/state-level address. |
| Arrest data | Arrest date, agency when populated, and days in jail. |
| Bond | Total bond amount or NOT SET, without a verified per-charge bond field. |
| Charge grid | Warrant number, counts, statute, description, M/F, and court. |
In the charge grid, M/F means misdemeanor or felony. It must not be confused with the separate Sex field. “NOT SET” does not always mean a person is legally ineligible for bond; it may reflect timing, a hold, an order, or incomplete public data.
Search Sumter Arrest Dates
The Inmates by Arrest Date view uses From and To calendars with Today, Clear, OK, and Cancel controls. It is the best official roster option when the likely booking date is known and the entry no longer falls within the recent window.

The date tool still returns booking records, not the final case outcome. Check every results page and then follow the displayed court.
A RELEASED label explains only that the person was no longer booked when the portal refreshed. It does not say whether bond was posted, a sentence ended, a transfer occurred, prosecution was dismissed, or an acquittal followed. Likewise, CURRENTLY BOOKED does not prove guilt.
Recent Arrests and Booking Logs
Sumter's three official views overlap but do not replace one another. Current Inmates answers who is shown in custody now. The 24-hour tab highlights new activity. The arrest-date view reaches a chosen range. Each profile can include multiple charge rows, holds, or sentencing notes, and outside-county holds help explain why the originating prosecution may be elsewhere.
No current official sheriff app was verified. An older iOS listing appears removed, so use the website tabs rather than directing readers to an obsolete app. The roster has no verified booking-number, DOB, agency, charge, or custody-status search filter beyond the controls described above.
A roster match confirms displayed booking data only. No match does not clear an arrest history or active warrant.
For unshown intake material, ask Sheriff Records whether a releasable booking sheet exists. The Georgia Open Records Act governs existing records; it does not require an agency to create a new report.
Request Sumter Arrest Agency Records
Route the request to the creating agency. Sumter Sheriff uses its walk-in Records Division, with the county form as a possible fallback after routing is confirmed. Americus uses its police contact and city JustFOIA process. Plains and Leslie direct requests through their local police or City Hall contacts. GSP and GBI records use the state agency's own open-records channel.
| Agency | Official record route |
|---|---|
| Sumter Sheriff | 352 McMath Mill; 229-924-4094; Records walk-in |
| Americus Police | 119 S. Lee; 229-924-3677; city open-records route |
| Plains Police | City Hall/department, 229-824-5445 |
| Leslie Police | 108 Commerce; 229-874-5835; lesliepd@sowega.net |
| GSP or GBI | Relevant state open-records channel |
Give the agency an incident number if known, approximate date, location, and record type. Ask for electronic inspection or copies and a cost estimate. Active investigations, juvenile information, victim details, medical material, and protected identifiers may be withheld or redacted.
Sumter Booking to GCIC Trail
Intake fingerprints and the OTN help connect a Sumter booking to Georgia Crime Information Center history. Yet GCIC, the jail, and the court can update at different times. For one's own statewide review, GBI says most sheriff or police departments can provide Georgia history under local requirements. The Sumter Sheriff's advertised local history is $20 cash only.
Sentenced state custody belongs to the Georgia Department of Corrections, not the county roster. The GDC Find an Offender page explains the statewide locator.

Use GDC for state correctional status, not as proof of every Sumter arrest.
The official GDC offender query form is the actual state search interface.

A missing GDC result does not mean no county booking or court file exists. It may simply mean the person is not in the sentenced state-custody system represented there.
Booking Warrants Are Not Clearance
InteropWeb may display a warrant number tied to a charge row. That proves only that the shown booking row contains that number. It does not establish whether the warrant remains active, whether another warrant exists, or whether the person is clear. No dedicated public Sumter active-warrant database was verified.
Magistrate Court may issue arrest warrants. Superior, State, or Municipal Court may issue bench or capias-type process after a missed appearance or order. Confirm the issuing court and case, then ask the court or sheriff for current surrender, appearance, bond, payment, and clearance instructions. Do not walk unexpectedly into an office based on an unverified warrant, and do not expect staff to disclose sealed or unexecuted investigative process.
Note: An empty booking search is historical custody evidence, not an active-warrant clearance certificate.
Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest and a conviction are records of different events. The first shows an allegation and custodial action. The second follows a guilty plea or verdict entered by a court. A Sumter arrest can end without a filed charge, after amendment, by dismissal, with a no bill, through acquittal, or in a conviction.
| Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|
| Created by arresting agency and jail | Created and maintained through the court |
| Shows an arrest or booking occurred | Shows a recorded finding of guilt |
| Lives in agency files and InteropWeb | Lives with the clerk and reported repository history |
| May end in release or no prosecution | May include sentence, appeal, or later sealing |
A charge description at booking can differ from the prosecutor's accusation or indictment. Read the clerk's final disposition before describing the outcome. If one's GCIC history lacks that outcome, contact the originating agency and provide the certified disposition under GBI correction instructions.
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and a booking photograph is not a conviction record.
